I used to live in Carlsbad, NM 10 years ago, and I would go every week to eat the Soft Chimichanga. Some weeks the "hot" chili was TOO hot, so had to scale back to the "medium".
Now, when I travel back to visit family I make it a point to eat a Soft Chimichanga while I am there - and take one for the road. These things will just melt in your mouth!!!!!!!!
It is not the cleanest looking place, but I think the food is pretty darn good!!! It beats any Mexican food restaurant in Albuquerque, NM!!!!! |

It absolutely boggles my mind to read the negative reviews on this restaurant. My girlfriend and I were traveling from Louisiana to California via Six Flags, Carlsbad Caverns, Show Low, Sedona, and Lake Havasu. We asked the desk clerk at the Motel 6 where the best Mexican restaurant was in town. She gave us directions to Lucy's. The place was nice, although nowhere near five star. (Neither are their very reasonable prices!) The restrooms were okay, neither great nor bad, the service was great, not excellent, and the food... ohhhh that food... it beat every Mexican restaurant that I've ever eaten, including Poncho's and Monterey House in Oklahoma City. There is one thing that I absolutely hate about Lucy's, it's nowhere near my current location in Vegas. Once I have my pilot's license and a plane, I will one day fly to Carlsbad for no other reason than to eat at Lucy's. I pray that I can one day find a restaurant in Vegas that has food like theirs! |

I found Lucy's to be quaint and really good food. For a hole in the wall that's been in business for 31 yrs., the food was really great. Come to California and have Mexican not the same. |

The town goes crazy over this place only because they serve alcohol. The food is good, but not great. The beans are not re-fried, they are whole. The rice is watery. The main dishes are ok. |

The food here was okay. The restaurant was dirty and messy. The restrooms don't even work. It should be a health violation and she should be closed. |
